Sports
When it comes to sports in Asia, Singapore is the place to be.
Our extensive, world-class facilities have attracted the best of international events.
Get Active
Take advantage of easy access to public facilities and private gyms islandwide to keep fit. Gym chains include Fitness First and California Fitness, and ladies-only ones like Amore, while public gyms include those run by the Singapore Sports Council. You’ll be surprised how easy it is to work out when even workplaces get into the act. The beaches around the island also provide scenic opportunities for jogging or in-line skating, though there are many free-for-all running groups pounding the city pavements after office hours. You’ll be happy to note the streets are generally safe even for that late-night run.
Team Sports and Group Classes
You can’t miss the casual soccer matches playing in virtually every open field you see, but look again and you’ll find more to Singapore’s sporting scene. From ultimate frisbee to rugby 7s, polo to dragon-boating, team sports are the perfect way to make new friends and network within both the local and expatriate communities.
Enrol in a Muay Thai or dancesport class, or engage in a friendly beach volleyball match, and watch your health (and social life!) pick up. Check out your neighbourhood Community Centre for affordable and wide-ranging classes, or go online – you’ll easily find a myriad of interest groups.
Other Interests
If, on the other hand, you like to keep your sport personal, you can challenge your limits at international-level events like the Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon and Aviva Ironman triathlon; take off on a rock climb, dirt bike, or a dive in local or regional waters, or just sail into the night for a spot of deep-sea fishing. Hone your archery skills or relax with yoga or a round of golf.
World-class Sports
From the approaching Youth Olympic Games to the Formula 1 Singtel Grand Prix night circuit, from prestigious international horse races to legs on the PGA golf tour, from International Rugby 7s to visiting English Premier League soccer teams; there’s always something to set your pulse racing.
The upcoming Sports Hub, a world-class complex offering state-of-the-art facilities, further sweetens the prospects of a spectacular sports calendar. As a plus, TV rights ensure that if you miss the live action, you can still support your sport in the comfort of your own home.
You’re bound to find a sport you’ll love in Singapore.
