About Singapore
Young professionals have much in common with Singapore – they’re vibrant, ambitious and ready to work and play hard.
The country itself is highly cosmopolitan with a sophisticated outlook, and its state-of-the-art infrastructure and top-notch facilities are run with classic Singaporean efficiency.
But life here is not all about work. Many visitors who come with the intention of a short-term stay end up falling for the weather, the unique character of this Asian nation, and our excellent quality and life.
Working in One of Asia’s Most Vibrant Cities
Singapore has established itself in many industries, including finance, oil and gas, electronics, manufacturing, education, healthcare and IT. Ever forward-looking, we also invest in new growth industries, like interactive and digital media, biomedical sciences and clean technology. This progressive state of the nation has translated into a myriad of vibrant career opportunities for all residents.
Backed by a highly stable political climate and strategic geographical location, Singapore is a great place to live in as well as a strategic regional base to launch one’s career from. You can take the cue from the over 7,000 MNCs that have set up offices and manufacturing facilities here, in Asia’s most competitive economy and the gateway to many emerging markets. In fact, according to the World Bank’s Doing Business 2009 Report, Singapore is the world’s easiest place to do business and the best place for Asian expatriates to live in.
A Great Place to Live
Singapore offers an ideal living environment for the upwardly mobile. Our public transportation, communications, educational and healthcare systems hold their own against developed cities and our crime rates are very low, at 670 per 100,000 as at 2008. It is generally safe here, even at night. Since 1992, Singapore has put in place a Green Plan to keep the country clean, green and environmentally sustainable, living up to our reputation as a Garden City.
Based on 2008 statistics, Singaporeans have a high literacy rate of 96% among residents aged 15 and over, and home ownership is over 90%.
When it’s time to unwind, you’ll find bustling businesses running alongside a rich and lively entertainment scene – think of Boat Quay near the Central Business District district -- perfect for after-work drinks when the day is over.
And for entertainment to dress up for, you can look forward to the two upcoming Integrated Resorts which will unveil a host of stunning new performance venues.
Singapore’s clubbing scene also has its favourite hotspots, such as Zouk and Butter Factory, that see snaking queues every weekend. Our party island, Sentosa, has several chillout zones by the sea, like the Café Del Mar club and the annual Zoukout event, that attract lots of weekend action.
But if it’s sporty action you prefer, then our weather is just right for it. The climate is warm all-year round, hovering between the average maximum of 31 deg C and a minimum of 23 deg C, making it a haven for water and outdoor sports.
