Nightlife

If your impression of the nightlife in Singapore is stuck in the dim alleys of Geylang, it’s time for a refresher – with a simple sweep through the city streets at sundown.

From chic lounges and stylish bars to swanky dance clubs and private rooms, the cosmopolitan nightlife here is neither stuffy nor sleazy.

Gently Into the Night

The enclaves of Rochester Park and Dempsey Hill are tranquil havens offering fashionable restaurants and pubs in lush surroundings. Fine wines and dining are on the menu at OneRochester and the Tippling Club and Harry’s @ Dempsey Hill.

The romance continues with the waterfront ambience at the Marina at Keppel Bay and Sentosa’s il Lido Lounge Bar and beach bars.

Downtown, Orchard Road and the Civic District offer the sparkling cityscape as backdrop to classy lounges, such as the exclusive Long March Bar at China Club, and the New Asia Bar located 71 storeys high. At the familiar Bar & Billiard Room at The Raffles Hotel, The Fullerton’s Post Bar, and Novus at the National Museum, you can soak in the cultural and historical settings along with your spirits. Revving up the beat is the Old Parliament House which has been reinvented as The Arts House which incorporates the live-music watering hole, Timbré.

Wide Awake

Celebrity ‘live’ acts and DJs from around the world are frequent highlights of the best night clubs. Among them, internationally-acclaimed Zouk offers plush facilities for private parties, and Mono at the St James Power Station provides discrete karaoke rooms until six in the morning.

Zouk also organises the intensely anticipated Zoukout, the definitive all-night outdoor dance party in the region, which draws an international crowd of thousands.

Evenings can also be elegant at the Bellini Grande, which styles itself as a modern-day supper club, delivering the sophisticated sounds of an 18-piece band with a global cast of performers.

For a more casual setting, the lit lawns of Chijmes combine al fresco charm with an excellent party atmosphere.

More is expected with the advent of Singapore’s two integrated resorts. With their posh casinos and swish nightspots, the high-rolling lifestyle is set to become part of Singapore’s already glamorous night scene.
