Dining
As a Singaporean, you are not alone when making a (very long) list of favourite dishes you must eat when you make a visit home!
And everyone understands when you say the food is what you miss the most when you’re away. In fact, our love relationship with food has been growing from strength to strength – from earnestly preserving the tastes of our local dishes to the regular debut of global cuisines in this “United Nations of Food”.
Our Forte in Food
With our culinary students and professionals regularly picking up prizes at world competitions, the international community is quickly recognising Singapore as an important epicurean hub, as the success of festivals such as the World Gourmet Summit testifies to. Explore Singapore’s unique dining experiences and you’ll soon rediscover a passion for food.
Culinary Experiences
The dining experience is more than just about the food. It encompasses the sights, sounds and smells around you. Who can forget the Old Airport Road hawker centre? While we fondly recall our favourite stalls, it can only be a happy surprise to find them renovated and thriving in more pleasant surroundings now. Other favourite centres like Lau Pa Sat Festival Market, and the Newton Food Centre have similarly been lovingly made over, while other stalls have found a new lease of life in new locations, such as the Makansutra Glutton’s Bay.
Casual Dining Enclaves
You’ll also find haunts like Clarke Quay and Chijmes familiar yet refreshingly different, all made over from their original uses. Still other enclaves have seemingly sprung up literally out of the woods, like Dempsey Hill and Wessex Estate, home to cult Hainanese canteen Colbar. Soak in the ambience of the different dining precincts; whether you prefer to relax or to party, all are guaranteed to charm.
Fine Dining
Neither is there a shortage of options for the discerning palate when it comes to gourmet food. The top hotels boast renowned chefs and excellent menus to tempt the gastronome, while other distinguished restaurants like Les Amis have their own niches. Fine dining clusters are also forming at Sentosa and the revamped Collyer Quay. We can even lay claim to having a homegrown restaurant, Iggy’s, on the S.Pellegrino World’s 50 Best Restaurants list.
Exceptional Dining
Indulge in a Jungle Breakfast with Wildlife, a romantic skylight dinner gliding over the harbour in a cable car, or inside a Singapore Flyer capsule, overlooking the scintillating Marina Bay area. Be dazzled by celebrity chefs and acclaimed vintners, and attend culinary masterclasses. There’s always a new dining experience to discover.
