A*STAR National Science Scholarships (PhD)

This scholarship funds five years of PhD studies at a top overseas university after completion of 1-year of paid attachment with an A*STAR research institute.

You are eligible if you are a Singaporean, Singapore Permanent Resident or ASEAN national with a first degree in a relevant discipline and first class honours, or its equivalent. You should also have gained or are in the process of gaining admission into a PhD programme at a top overseas university.

Singapore International Graduate Award

This award covers four years of PhD research, in English, at the candidate’s choice of laboratory at A*STAR research institutes, NUS or NTU.

Open to all international students, you must speak and write English fluently, have excellent academic results and good academic reports.

A*STAR International Fellowship

Final year PhD graduates who want to expand their research experience and international exposure can apply for this two-year post-doctoral fellowship at top overseas laboratories.

To be eligible, you need to be a Singaporean, Singapore Permanent Resident or ASEAN national, or be willing to take up Singaporean citizenship and complete a one-year paid attachment at an A*STAR institute before starting your post-doctoral training.You must possess excellent publication records and good references from your supervisors.

Lee Kuan Yew (LKY) Post-doctoral Fellowship

This is a three-year fellowship at NTU and NUS to be held concurrently with a staff research position at one of its schools. Research areas include biological sciences, communications, computing, civil and environmental engineering and physical sciences.

Open to all nationalities, you should be a recent PhD graduate with outstanding academic records and research potential.

NRF Research Fellow Scheme

This three-year fellowship provides grants of up to SGD2.1 million for young scientists to set up a team and lead independent research at a Singapore based research organisation. Researchers have full freedom in setting research directions and choice of host organisation.

The scheme is globally competitive and you need to present a compelling research project proposal, possess an excellent record of prior post-doctoral work at a reputable university and demonstrate readiness for independent research.

Nanyang Assistant Professorships

This appointment at NTU provides start-up research grants of up to SGD1 million over three years, attractive remuneration and the prospect of tenure track positions at the university.

To be eligible, you are expected to be within ten years of gaining your PhD and ready for independent leadership of your own research group.

SERC A*STAR Investigatorships (SERC)

The A*STAR Investigatorships will support and promote the independent early career development of potential leaders in scientific and engineering research.

The award supports physical sciences and engineering research for a duration of 3 years. renewable for a further 3 years. The Investigatorships will be tenable at one of A*STAR’s prestigious science and engineering research institutes.

A*STAR Investigators will select a mentor from A*STAR's research institutes and will be able to harness existing talents, equipment, and other resources as they conduct and publish their research independently.

SERC A*STAR Investigatorships (BMRC)

A*STAR Investigatorships aim to support and promote early independent career development of the next generation of world leaders in scientific research. Applicants should have obtained their PhD not more than 48 months prior to the application date, and should have already demonstrated a strong ability and creativity in research. Applicants with MD-PhD should be in their last year of, or have completed their clinical specialty training at the time of application.

The award provides for an independent position for a duration of 3+3 years, with a review at the end of the 2nd year and a possibility of "fast-track" promotion. Tenable at one of A*STAR’s prestigious biomedical research institutes, A*STAR Investigators may select a mentor from A*STAR but will conduct and publish their research independently.

A*STAR Investigators will receive attractive remuneration, support for set-up costs, research funding, research staff and access to state-of the-art scientific equipment and facilities including the Biopolis Shared Facilities and the Biological Resource Centre.

The Singapore-MIT Alliance (SMA) Graduate Fellowship at SMART

The Singapore Ministry of Education has established 100 four-year fellowships for new doctoral students at NTU or NUS who will conduct their research at the Singapore-MIT Alliance for Research and Technology Centre (SMART Centre).

The establishment of this Fellowship Programme is intended to attract to NTU and NUS the best and most talented doctoral students from Singapore, the region, and beyond and educate them to be future leaders in science and technology for Singapore and beyond. The Fellowship will provide them with the opportunity to be involved in the strategic research programmes at the SMART Centre and provide them with the opportunity to be co-advised by an MIT faculty member. The student may spend up to six months doing research at MIT.
