Collaborations with research institutes, research consortia and public hospitals have spurred the testbedding and creation of innovative medical treatments. These fields of research include clinical sciences, genomics, bioengineering, molecular/cell biology, medical biology, bioimaging and immunology. Diseases that are on high priority are cancer, metabolic diseases, neurodegenerative diseases, infectious diseases and eye diseases.

GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) has opened a S$700 million vaccine plant in Singapore, marking GSK's first primary vaccine manufacturing plant and its largest investment in Asia. The plant will be one of only two global sites to produce bulk polysaccharides and conjugates. Abbott has also chosen to conduct its clinical trials for a small molecule drug which treats advanced stages of lung cancer and other forms of cancer at the National University Hospital (NUH). Having successfully completed Phase 1, Abbott will be proceeding with Phase 2 clinical trials at NUH.
