Greater China

China, the fastest growing economy in the world, also has one of the largest talent pools of professionals and fresh graduates waiting to be tapped.

Qualifications and Expertise

China has over 1,850 universities and colleges which enrol more than five million students a year. Hong Kong adds to that number with seven University Grants Committee (UGC) funded public universities that produce over 50,000 students each year.

The Chinese are typically strong in engineering, scientific research, ICT and digital media, while Hong Kong graduates are traditionally renowned for their legal, healthcare, maritime and financial expertise.

Recruitment Considerations

Modern China brims with highly educated and skilled professionals who are eager to garner international work experience and see the world.

In the high-tech and management areas, Chinese talent is in high demand, particularly from three areas, namely the Bohai (Beijing and Tianjin), Pearl River Delta (Guangzhou and Shenzhen) and Yangtze River Delta (Shanghai, Jiangsu and Zhejiang) regions.

While many Chinese professionals are happy to pursue their careers in China’s booming economy, many more are eager to venture overseas for international exposure and experience. Chinese citizens can easily apply for an international passport these days, so travelling out of the country is not an issue.

If your company does not have any operations or presence in China, you are technically not allowed to participate in local recruitment fairs. You may want to engage a local employment intermediary to help you with recruitment, but do check to see that it is a licensed agency with a credible record.

The recommended period of recruitment is from November to mid-February for graduating students. You can get a head start on your competitors by commencing efforts a few months before graduation. You can also partner Contact Singapore for these recruitment events.
